Por Mi Culpa

Every Easter, in a small town in Mexico, ordinary men disappear behind masks, elaborate costumes, and hidden identities to become Phariseesmysterious Biblical figures entrusted with carrying out one of the communitys most striking traditions. Moving through dusty streets and crowded plazas, they collect donations, enforce customs, and dole out punishments to those who violate the rules of the season. What appears at first to be a spectacle of intimidation gradually reveals itself as a living ritual shaped by faith, history, performance, and collective identity. Through immersive cinematography and intimate access, the film follows the transformation of these masked men as they navigate the boundary between anonymity and responsibility. Beneath the costumes are fathers, laborers, neighbors, and friends who temporarily surrender their individual identities to embody something larger than themselves.

Their presence turns the town into a stage where religion, folklore, and social order collide in a visually arresting display unlike any other. This documentary approaches the tradition with both curiosity and respect. Rather than presenting the ritual as an exotic curiosity, the film seeks to illuminate the deeper human stories that sustain it across generations. Stylish, atmospheric, and deeply observational, the documentary invites audiences into a rarely seen world where masks conceal identities, tradition shapes behavior, and an entire community comes together to reenact a ritual that continues to define its cultural soul.
